Factoring by Grouping
Theory of Lie Groups by Claude C. Chevalley, This famous book was the first treatise on Lie groups in which a modern point of view was adopted systematically, namely, that a continuous group can be regarded as a global object. To develop this idea to its fullest extent, Chevalley incorporated a broad range of topics, such as the covering spaces of topological spaces, analytic manifolds, integration of complete systems of differential equations on a manifold, and the calculus of exterior differential forms. The book opens with a short description of the classical groups: unitary groups, orthogonal groups, symplectic groups, etc. These special groups are then used to illustrate the general properties of Lie groups, which are considered later. The general notion of a Lie group is defined and correlated with the algebraic notion of a Lie algebra; the subgroups, factor groups, and homomorphisms of Lie groups are studied by making use of the Lie algebra. The last chapter is concerned with the theory of compact groups, culminating in Peter-Weyl's theorem on the existence of representations. Given a compact group, it is shown how one can construct algebraically the corresponding Lie group with complex parameters which appears in the form of a certain algebraic variety (associated algebraic group). This construction is intimately related to the proof of the generalization given by Tannaka of Pontrjagin's duality theorem for Abelian groups. The continued importance of Lie groups in mathematics and theoretical physics make this an indispensable volume for researchers in both fields.
Rediscovering Groups: A Psychoanalyst's Journey Beyond Individual Psychology by Marshall Edelson, X In this informative, informal and intergenerational dialogue on the psychology of group processes, Marchall Edelson and David N. Berg use and test current theory, laying practical guidelines for realizing the constructive possibilities of groups and organizations. They argue that pernicious processes in groups can be avoided by the development of a complex understanding of the factors and identities which influence and create a group. In a group setting, change or learning occurs through the active participation of all group members. They suggest that, rather than theoretical ideas, humans use stories as tools to understand and share experiences. Within this conceptual framework, they discuss key themes, such as the practice and teaching or group psychotherapy and group dynamics; group identities-gender, generation, race, ethnicity; the problem of scapegoating in groups; and the nature of authority. Rediscovering Groups is an interchange of ideas between two individuals from different generations, who recount and compare their experiences of groups and organizations. This detailed and personal analysis thus both describes and enacts its dual themes of narrative and collaboration. It presents an authoritative image of group processes which applies to all who work with groups.
Factoring (trade) - This article is about the financial term. For factoring in maths see factorization and for factoring of integers, see integer factorization. RSA Factoring Challenge - The RSA Factoring Challenge is a challenge put forward by RSA Laboratories on March 18 1991 to encourage research into computational number theory and the practical difficulty of factoring large integers. They published a list of semiprimes (numbers with exactly two prime factors) known as the RSA numbers, with a cash prize for the successful factorization of some of them. Islamic Fayli Grouping in Iraq - The Islamic Fayli Grouping in Iraq or Iraqi Faili Islamic Gathering is one of two Iraqi political parties of Shi'ite Fayli Kurds, the other being the Fayli Kurd Islamic Union. Both parties are part of the United Iraqi Alliance coalition in the 2005 Iraqi election. Independent Grouping for Reflection - Independent Grouping for Reflection (in French: Groupement Indépendent de Reflexion), was a political party in the Central African Republic. GIR was led by François Pehoua, a former minister in the Bokassa cabinet.
